Dolomite is a dynamic, highly professional and expanding company based in Royston, Herts, UK. We are a leading provider of microfluidic solutions, with world-class microfabrication capabilities. We provide a bespoke service to our clients; from design and fabrication of microfluidic devices to full instrument or system development and manufacturing.

Our clients work in a range of fields including chemical and biological analysis, microreactor systems, and point-of-care diagnostics. We also have an expanding range of standard products, which are typically used in scientific research.

We seek a bright, highly motivated engineer/ scientist to be the principal researcher on a 3 year collaborative project developing novel electrospray technologies for use in drug delivery. This will include working as part on a multidisciplinary team on the development of a groundbreaking medical device for the treatment of lung disease. The successful candidate will also be involved in a variety of projects at Dolomite, including the development of droplet based microfluidic technologies.

The three year collaborative project is based in based in both Royston and Dublin with approximately half the time spent at each location. Relocation expenses for time spent in Dublin will be paid for by the company. The collaboration is between The Dolomite Centre, The National University of Ireland Maynooth, and Trinity College Dublin, and is funded through a Marie Curie Industry & Academia Partnerships and Pathways EU Framework 7 Grant.

At the end of the three year project we would hope to offer a permanent role at Dolomite.

Requirements

  • Degree on mechanical, biomedical engineering or physics or a related discipline.
  • 4 years research experience ideally consisting of a relevant PhD (industrial research experience will also be considered).
  • Excellent hands on skills required for setting up and running experiments.
  • Due to the nature of the funding, you must not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the UK for more than 1 out of the last 3 years.

Desirable:

  • Some practical experience in microfluidics or medical device design is desirable but not essential
  • Mechanical design experience ideally with 3D CAD systems
