R&D Laboratory Manager — Daktari Diagnostics

Position: R&D Laboratory Manager

Daktari Diagnostics, Inc. is a Boston-based company developing innovative diagnostic tests for global health conditions. The core technology combines microfluidics with electrochemical sensing. Our initial product, a point-of-care CD4 testing system for use in HIV disease staging worldwide, will provide a CD4 cell count result in less than 10 minutes from a finger stick of blood, anywhere in the world. This handheld system includes a disposable assay cartridge comprised of molded plastics, microfluidics, integrated sensors, and chemistry, and a low-cost electromechanical instrument.

The successful candidate will work closely with Daktari’s science and engineering staff, formulating and conducting experiments on prototype systems, and helping to analyze and interpret data. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for the management of laboratory operations, including training, inventory, laboratory SOPs, documentation, and laboratory safety.

In more detail, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintenance of the quality, safety, and high efficiency of laboratory work
  • Oversight of laboratory notebooks and documentation of experimental activities
  • Oversight of laboratory inventory, including supply ordering, and equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Safety training of laboratory personnel, including bloodborne pathogen and hazardous waste disposal training
  • Conducting experiments to validate the design of microfluidic devices and to evaluate immunoassay performance
  • Conducting experiments to validate the quality and stability of electrochemical sensors and wet and dry reagents
  • Working closely with Daktari senior staff to design experimental processes and write and maintain standard operating procedures
  • Preparing and presenting technical reports
  • Supporting R&D staff in the development of materials and equipment necessary for ongoing research and development

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biomedical engineering, or related field
  • Experience with laboratory procedures, including handling of biological samples
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • 5 to 10 years experience in laboratory management in a biomedical science or biomedical engineering product development environment
  • Ability to work independently in a start-up environment

Daktari Diagnostics is a dynamic, start-up environment committed to bringing the highest quality medical diagnostics to everyone, everywhere.
