Position: Senior Microfluidics Engineer

Job Summary:
Provide technical expertise and leadership as part of a multi-disciplinary technology development team, with a focus on fluidic and micro-fluidic systems analysis, architecture and design for Next Generation Sequencing instrumentation and disposables, including lab-on-a-chip applications.


  • Innovate novel, robust and cost effective designs and solutions to new market challenges
  • Design, build, characterize and validate fluidic subsystems and devices for new and existing products
  • Design systems for broad array of applications, including DNA/RNA sample preparation and sequencing
  • Develop and refine fluidic protocols for new and existing biochemistry assays
  • Model complex systems using simulation software (CFD-ACE+, ANSYS or other package) for dynamic behavior, multi-phase and multi-species, thermal, etc.
  • Lead technical project teams from concept through validation
  • Collaborate with external partners in product design
  • Perform feasibility studies for throughput, reliability, cost, ergonomics and product quality
  • Conduct FMEAs and identify, disclose, and propose alternatives to technical risks and problems
  • Engage stakeholders across the organization to identify requirements and collaborate on technologies
  • Manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and dynamic working environment


  • 5+ years of development experience within an R&D or new product development group
  • Experience developing genetic analysis or biomedical research instrumentation
  • Experience with MEMs fabrication and nanofabrication
  • Experience with low cost/high volume consumables
  • Experience interfacing with Biochemistry and Surface Chemistry teams
  • Microfluidic device manufacturing (injection molding, ultrasonic welding, laminate materials)
  • Experience with flow dynamics, filtering, pumping and fluid to fluid interfacing
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of computational modeling techniques
  • Proficiency using 3D CAD (Solid Works preferred), standard data analysis (Excel), and presentation (PowerPoint) software tools
  • Strong and proactive communication and presentation skills
  • Talent for exercising technical leadership
  • Ability to participate in cross-functional, global teams


  • PhD or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering or related field
